VanVed vs Slack
for Notifications
Why businesses choose VanVed over Slack
These are different products and VanVed is the one that knows why it is notifying you: the notification is raised by the approval, the leave decision or the ticket assignment itself, carries a deep link to that record, and cannot be sent twice thanks to a dedupe key enforced in the database. It can also forward into Slack, so the two are complements — and it costs nothing per user.
Capability by capability
Every row below is what our 2026 research found — including the rows we lose.
| Capability | VanVed | Slack |
|---|---|---|
| Price per user | Part of the platform, no separate charge | $7.25/user/mo Pro, $15 Business+ annual; free tier limits message history |
| What triggers a notification | Business events — an approval, a leave decision, a ticket assignment, a contract expiring — raised by the module itself | People typing, or an app posting through a webhook you configure |
| Team chat and conversations | None — this is a notification centre, not a messaging product | Channels, DMs, threads, huddles |
| Delivery to Slack or Teams | Org-level outgoing webhooks, filterable per category, so notifications can land in a Slack channel | Native |
| Per-user preferences | In-app and email togglable per category; push has no opt-out and email is off by default | Per-channel preferences, keyword alerts, and notification schedules with Do Not Disturb |
| Quiet hours and digests | Neither — every notification fires immediately, and there is no batching | Do Not Disturb schedules plus batched email and mobile summaries |
| Mobile push actually reaching a phone | Coded end to end on both sides, but no Firebase project exists yet — no credentials on the server and no google-services.json in the app, so nothing is delivered today | Works |
| Duplicate suppression | A dedupe key makes every notification idempotent per recipient, enforced by a DB constraint | Not applicable — Slack delivers whatever an app posts |
Where Slack is ahead of us today
Slack is a communication platform; VanVed's notification centre is not, and does not try to be. More seriously, the mobile push pipeline is written on both sides but has never been connected: there is no Firebase project, so no push notification reaches a phone today. There are no quiet hours, no digests and no way for a user to turn push off — and email delivery is off by default, so a user who never opens the app may never learn anything happened.
We publish this because a comparison that only flatters us is worth nothing to you. If one of these gaps is the thing you actually need, Slack may well be the better buy.
What VanVed's Notifications module does
- Notification center
A bell in the top bar with every notification in one place.
- Email notifications
The important ones also land in email, not just in-app.
- Covers the platform
Approvals, HR actions, visitor check-ins and helpdesk tickets all raise a notification.
