VanVed vs Shopify
for Catalog
Why businesses choose VanVed over Shopify
Selling a physical product, a course seat, a booking and a coaching programme out of one catalog and one cart is structural here, not an app stack. Digital delivery is native — payment verification issues an access grant and the file download is scoped to the buyer — and a product or a single variant can be wired to the same stock ledger the POS and inventory modules use.
Capability by capability
Every row below is what our 2026 research found — including the rows we lose.
| Capability | VanVed | Shopify |
|---|---|---|
| What a product can be | 8 types in one catalog — physical, digital, service, software, subscription, course access, booking, coaching programme | Physical and digital first; bookings and courses need apps |
| Variants and options | Two option dimensions per variant, each with its own price, SKU and stock | Up to 2,048 variants across 3 options |
| Product images | Multiple images with alt text and sort order, validated as real images | Images plus video and 3D models |
| Stock tied to a real ledger | Product or variant can link to the inventory module's stock ledger, and checkout deducts through it | Native inventory, 10 locations up to Advanced |
| SEO fields on a listing | None — no meta title, meta description or social image on a product | Page title, meta description, handle and sitemap |
| Product reviews | None — no review model exists | Not native either since 2024 — a review metaobject plus a paid app |
| Search and faceted filtering | One text match on title, store and category, plus a price sort — no facets | Search & Discovery app: metafield filters, synonyms, boosts |
| Digital goods delivery | Native — a verified payment issues an access grant and the download is buyer-scoped | Through the free first-party Digital Downloads app |
| AI-written product descriptions | Yes, through the tenant's own AI gateway — and it fails honestly when unconfigured | Shopify Magic, included |
Where Shopify is ahead of us today
A product has no SEO fields at all — no meta title, no meta description, no social image — so listings are weaker in search than a Shopify product out of the box. There are no product reviews of any kind, and storefront search is a single case-insensitive title match with no price, attribute or availability facets. There is also no app ecosystem behind any of this.
We publish this because a comparison that only flatters us is worth nothing to you. If one of these gaps is the thing you actually need, Shopify may well be the better buy.
