VanVed vs Zoho People
for HR
Why businesses choose VanVed over Zoho People
VanVed's employee record is genuinely one record: attendance, leave balances, payroll, expense claims, appraisals and issued assets all hang off it and all appear on one profile page, without the tier-gating Zoho applies to attendance and performance. Custom fields and the org chart are now built, not planned.
Capability by capability
Every row below is what our 2026 research found — including the rows we lose.
| Capability | VanVed | Zoho People |
|---|---|---|
| Employee record + manager hierarchy | Yes — one Employee row shared by attendance, leave, payroll, expenses and approvals | Yes |
| Custom fields on the employee record | Yes — per-org text/number/date/choice fields, admin-defined, no code change | Yes, with form/section builder |
| Reporting and filtering on custom fields | No — values are stored as untyped text, so you cannot sort, filter or report on them | Yes — typed fields feed views and reports |
| Visual org chart | Yes — collapsible tree built from the manager chain, plus a per-employee manager/reports view | Yes |
| Employee document vault | Partly — documents can be linked to an employee with versions, expiry reminders, e-signature and an access log, but the panel on the profile is read-only and the module must be switched on | Yes, in every paid tier |
| Onboarding / offboarding checklists | None — no checklist, task or exit-clearance model anywhere in the codebase | Yes, from the Essential HR tier up |
| Probation / confirmation tracking | A probation end date on the record and a one-click Confirm that stamps the date — no reminder, no letter, and nothing else of the lifecycle | Yes |
| Employee 360 view (attendance, leave, pay, assets in one place) | Yes — one profile with tabs for attendance, leave, payroll, expenses, appraisals and assigned assets | Attendance and performance only on the higher tiers |
| Pay-basis aware record (monthly / daily / hourly) | Yes — feeds an attendance-derived pay suggestion that an admin must accept | Yes |
Where Zoho People is ahead of us today
Zoho People treats an employee as a lifecycle, not a row. Onboarding and offboarding checklists and case management simply do not exist in VanVed, and confirmation is a date plus a button rather than a process — nothing reminds anyone that a probation is ending and no letter comes out of it. An HR team that runs joiners and leavers through a defined process today would have to keep doing that in a spreadsheet. VanVed's custom fields are also stored as plain text, so unlike Zoho's you cannot filter or report on them.
We publish this because a comparison that only flatters us is worth nothing to you. If one of these gaps is the thing you actually need, Zoho People may well be the better buy.
What VanVed's HR module does
- Employee records
One record per employee, shared by attendance and payroll.
- Leave requests
Requested, approved or rejected, feeding into attendance.
- Pay records
Base pay, bonuses and deductions add up to each person’s net pay. Statutory payroll runs (PF, ESI, PT) are the Payroll module.
